Oga Obinna reveals KSh 1m monthly payroll: “I’ve hired 34 people”

Comedian Oga Obinna Shares Insights on Employment in the Entertainment Industry

Comedian Oga Obinna has opened up about the significant number of people he employs through his work in the entertainment sector. As the host of The Oga Obinna Show, he has revealed that he currently has 34 individuals on his payroll, with a monthly salary expenditure of KSh 1 million. This figure does not include additional costs related to production and logistics.

Obinna highlighted the role of art in generating employment opportunities, pointing to his own experience as an example. His team consists of various professionals, including a bodyguard, a manager, a videographer, and several other roles that contribute to the smooth operation of his projects.

He addressed criticisms from those who question why he often travels with his employees, explaining that it is a way to provide them with steady employment. He said:

“Some people frown when they see me walking around with a bodyguard. You may not understand, but I can’t stop to explain why. Others complain that I am always with my videographer. This person is employed, and by working together, he will earn a living. He captures better footage than I could on my own, which helps us create a compelling storyline. That’s employment.”

Commitment to Employee Welfare

Obinna further explained that he employs roughly 34 people who receive monthly salaries exceeding KSh 1 million. This amount is separate from the expenses related to production and logistics. He emphasized that even during months when he does not make a profit, he ensures that his staff is paid, sometimes sacrificing his own income to do so.

“I am directly supporting 34 families,” he stated. “Even if I don’t profit, I dig into my own pocket to ensure my staff is paid. It’s important for me to take care of them.”

Supporting the Broader Industry

Beyond his own employees, Obinna also discussed how his work contributes to the broader entertainment industry. He explained that when he hires equipment, locations, and other resources for a music video or project, it creates jobs for approximately 50 people. These roles include producers, directors of photography, lighting technicians, set designers, transportation crews, makeup artists, costume designers, dancers, and extras.

In addition, he mentioned that hiring TikTokers for dance challenges can bring in even more participants. “If I hire TikTokers for dance challenges, the number of people involved can easily reach 50,” he added.

The Ripple Effect of Art and Entertainment

Oga Obinna’s approach reflects a deep understanding of the ripple effect that art and entertainment can have on employment. By investing in his team and collaborating with others in the industry, he not only supports his own career but also helps sustain livelihoods for many others.

His commitment to providing stable employment and fostering collaboration within the creative sector serves as an inspiring example of how one individual’s success can lead to broader economic opportunities. Through his efforts, he continues to demonstrate that the entertainment industry is not just about performance, but also about building communities and creating sustainable jobs.
