Uganda’s Ex-Ambassador to Egypt Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Tragic Death of Former Egyptian Ambassador in Road Accident

A former Ugandan diplomat, Richard Laus Angualia, lost his life in a head-on collision on the Arua-Terego road on Tuesday afternoon. The incident was confirmed by the Uganda Police Force, who stated that the ambassador was involved in a fatal crash while traveling on a Bajaj motorcycle to his farm in Terego.

According to Collins Asea, the West Nile Police spokesperson, the accident occurred when Angualia was reportedly riding with a cyclist he had hired for the journey. Both individuals were killed instantly in the crash.

Background of the Late Ambassador

Richard Laus Angualia had a distinguished career in public service and diplomacy. He was appointed as Uganda’s ambassador to Egypt in 2011, based in Cairo. In 2015, he retired from foreign service to pursue a political career, contesting as a member of Parliament for Maracha East but ultimately losing the election.

He continued to engage in local politics, running for the position of LC5 Chairperson in Maracha district. However, he did not succeed in the NRM primaries.

Educational and Professional Journey

Angualia received his early education at Liria Primary School in Terego and later attended St. Joseph’s College in Ombaci. He then enrolled at Makerere University, where he ran for the position of Guild president but was unsuccessful.

His professional journey included various roles, starting as a Town Clerk in the former Arua municipal. He later joined the Ministry of Water and eventually served as Uganda’s ambassador to Egypt and the Middle East.

In recent years, he worked as a lecturer at Kyambogo University and was pursuing a doctorate at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI).

Tributes Pour In for the Late Diplomat

The community and political leaders expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the late ambassador. Assistant Regional District Commissioner (RDC) of Maracha, Collins Dramani, extended heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late ambassador.

“His Excellency Ambassador Angualia Laus was a highly respected and patriotic son of Uganda,” said Dramani. “As a former diplomat and senior cadre of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), he dedicated his life to the service of this nation and to the growth and transformation of our party, particularly in Maracha District.”

Dramani highlighted that the ambassador was known for his wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to the core principles of the NRM. His passing is seen as a significant loss to both the political and diplomatic communities in Uganda.

Legacy of Service and Leadership

Throughout his career, Angualia demonstrated a strong sense of duty and responsibility towards his country. His contributions to public service, education, and politics have left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

As the nation mourns the loss of a dedicated leader, tributes continue to pour in from across the country. His legacy will be remembered through the many lives he touched and the work he accomplished during his lifetime.
