Nedbank for Good Tour Expands North, Grootfontein Makes Debut

Expansion of the Nedbank for Good Series in 2025

The Nedbank for Good Series has officially launched its 2025 northern region tour, with the sixth round of competition concluding recently in Oshakati. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the series’ mission to promote and develop golf across Namibia. The event not only showcases local talent but also strengthens the sport’s presence in underrepresented areas.

Upcoming Events and Strategic Expansion

The tour is set to continue with the seventh round scheduled for Tsumeb on 19 July. Following this, Grootfontein will make its highly anticipated debut as the host of round eight on Saturday, 26 July. This addition, along with Okahandja earlier in the 2025 season, reflects a strategic expansion aimed at increasing the series’ reach into northern Namibia.

This growth highlights the series’ commitment to nurturing local talent and creating more opportunities for golfers in these regions. The expansion also underscores the growing interest in the sport, with events drawing larger audiences and more participants.

Men’s and Women’s Competition Results

In the men’s competition this year, local favorite Jeremiah Andreas emerged victorious, claiming the title from previous winners Antonius Amugongo. Andreas scored 42 points to win ahead of David Johannes, who secured second place with 41 points counted in (C/I). Ludwig Mukwirongo took third place with 41 points counted out C/O, followed by Gebhard Mbako and Nelson Johannes, both scoring 41 points C/O in fifth position.

In the women’s division, Sesilia Nkoshi overcame her festive mood after attending a wedding and joined the women golfers on the course to claim victory. She finished with 41 points, ahead of 2023 and 2024 champion Eveline Shilongo, who scored 31 points. Hilya Ininga secured third place.

Community Engagement and Sponsorship

Series organizer Dan Zwiebel expressed his satisfaction with the turnout at the northern events, which has sparked increased interest in the sport. He noted that the event in Oshakati had 24 players in the field, including three ladies. Nkoshi, who is from Windhoek Golf Course and Country Club, was in the north for a wedding and managed to participate in the competition.

Zwiebel emphasized that the growth of the series reflects its dedication to nurturing local talent. He also paid tribute to the main sponsor, Nedbank Namibia, and all co-sponsors, highlighting their crucial role in supporting the sport and contributing to a good cause.

Benefiting Underserved Communities

This year’s series proceeds will go directly to Agra ProVision, an organization focused on training, servicing, and supporting underserved agricultural communities. This partnership aligns with the series’ broader goals of using golf as a platform for social development.

JG van Graan, Chief Commercial Officer of Nedbank Namibia, praised the expansion of the series, welcoming new venues such as Grootfontein, Outjo, and Okahandja. He stated that the new competition will bring challenges for players, enhancing their competitiveness and making the events more exciting.

Van Graan added that the Nedbank for Good Series plays a vital role in providing a platform for local golf talent to shine, hone their skills, and compete at a high level.

Future Events and Conclusion

After a busy July, several new venues will take center stage. Outjo Golf Club will host an event on 2 August, followed by Henties Bay Golf and Lifestyle Estate on 16 August, Rossmund Golf Course on 23 August, and Walvis Bay Golf on 30 August 2025.

The penultimate competition will be held at the Windhoek Golf and Country Club on 13 September, with the grand finale taking place at the Omeya Golf Club on 3 October.

These events continue to highlight the series’ impact on the golf community and its commitment to fostering talent and promoting the sport across Namibia.
