CM Mohan Yadav Seeks Long-Term MP-Inditex Collaboration

Exploring a Sustainable Partnership Between Madhya Pradesh and Inditex

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently visited the headquarters of Inditex in A Coruña, Spain, to discuss potential collaborations with the global fashion giant. The meeting focused on building a long-term partnership between the state and the company, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and ethical business practices.

Commitment to Sustainability

Yadav praised Inditex for its leadership in the fashion industry and highlighted the company’s dedication to sustainability. “Inditex is not only a global leader in the fashion industry, but your commitment to sustainability, innovation, and ethical business practices is truly exemplary,” he stated. He added that the state is eager to work with Inditex to create a future that is sustainable, inclusive, and driven by innovation.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Madhya Pradesh, often referred to as the heart of India, has become an ideal location for the textile and apparel industry. “Our goal is to demonstrate how Madhya Pradesh can serve as a sustainable hub for your operations,” he said.

Aligning with Sustainable Goals

Madhya Pradesh is one of India’s largest producers of raw cotton, with an annual production of approximately 18 lakh bales (about 3 lakh metric tons). The state is also known for its organic cotton production, with GOTS-certified farmer groups actively involved in the sector. This aligns well with Inditex’s sustainability goals.

“Madhya Pradesh is an ideal partner for your sustainability priorities, where we can work together on the ‘Farm-to-Fabric’ value chain,” Yadav explained. He expressed hope that the state and Inditex could collaborate to increase cotton production, particularly in the organic cotton sector, to meet the company’s sustainable sourcing needs.

Promoting ESG Values

The Chief Minister also highlighted the state government’s commitment to promoting Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) values. These include water conservation, waste management, and improved labor standards. “Our vision fully aligns with Inditex’s sustainable and responsible sourcing policy,” he noted.

Yadav further mentioned that the state is working towards promoting renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint and lead in clean energy initiatives. “We are not just building businesses, but building a green future,” he said.

Industrial and Export Policies

Madhya Pradesh has introduced new Industrial and Export Policies (2025), which aim to create a favorable environment for industries and exports. The Chief Minister expressed his desire to develop the textile and apparel industry in collaboration with Inditex.

“Our policies aim at promoting renewable energy and reducing our carbon footprint,” he said. “We seek the overall development of the textile and apparel industry in Madhya Pradesh with Inditex’s cooperation.”

Proposing a Garmenting Unit in PM MITRA Park

One of the key proposals from the Chief Minister was for Inditex to establish a garmenting unit at the PM MITRA Park in Dhar. “Our proposal is that Inditex establish its garmenting unit in the PM MITRA Park (Dhar), which is the Government of India’s largest initiative and can be an ideal center for sustainable and integrated production for global brands like Inditex,” he stated.

Yadav believes that such a move would not only boost exports but also contribute to local employment and women empowerment. “We expect that the presence of a global brand like Inditex will not only increase exports but also strengthen local employment, women empowerment, and sustainable development,” he added.

A Vision for Mutual Growth

The Chief Minister concluded by expressing confidence that the discussions would open new doors for collaboration. “I am confident that our discussions today will open new doors for collaboration, which will not only bring business success but also contribute to achieving our shared global sustainability goals,” he said.

This potential partnership between Madhya Pradesh and Inditex highlights the growing importance of sustainability in the fashion industry and the opportunities that lie in collaborative efforts between governments and global corporations.
