Bucharest’s New Flamaropol Ice Rink to Boost Sports Infrastructure
Bucharest City Hall, in collaboration with District 2 City Hall, is preparing to start construction on the new Flamaropol Ice Rink. This significant project aims to enhance the sports infrastructure of Romania’s capital city. The decision was made during a meeting held on Tuesday, July 15, between Bucharest’s acting mayor, Stelian Bujduveanu, and District 2 mayor, Rareș Hopincă.
The official order to begin construction is expected to be issued in the coming days, with the project set to be completed within 20 months. This timeline reflects the commitment of both city halls to deliver a modern facility that will serve the community for years to come.
Key Components of the Flamaropol Complex
The Flamaropol complex will consist of two main components: a sports arena and a multifunctional leisure center. Each part is designed to offer a wide range of activities and facilities, catering to different interests and needs.
Sports Arena
The sports arena will have a seating capacity of 3,661 people. It will include an international-standard ice rink measuring 60 meters by 30 meters. In addition to the rink, the arena will feature modern locker rooms, a fitness room, media and VIP areas, commercial spaces, and an energy-efficient design focused on long-term sustainability. These features ensure that the facility meets the highest standards for sports events and public use.
Multifunctional Leisure Center
The multifunctional leisure center will provide 763 seats and offer a variety of recreational options. It will include a basketball court, an indoor swimming pool, a climbing center, a wellness area with spa and fitness facilities, an indoor skate park, and additional retail spaces. This diverse range of amenities ensures that the center can accommodate various groups, from athletes to families and individuals seeking leisure activities.
Combined Capacity and Community Impact
Together, the two buildings will form a modern sports complex with a total capacity of 4,424 people. This development is expected to significantly contribute to the city’s sports and leisure offerings, providing residents with access to high-quality facilities.
Funding and Partnership
The investment will be carried out in partnership with District 2 City Hall, with both institutions contributing equally. Each entity will cover 50% of the project’s total cost, which amounts to RON 128 million, excluding VAT. This shared responsibility highlights the collaborative effort between the two city halls to deliver a project that benefits the entire community.
