Comprehensive Sports Development Initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Faisal Karim Kundi, has unveiled an extensive sports development plan aimed at empowering the youth and enhancing the province’s sporting infrastructure. This initiative includes several groundbreaking projects such as the first-ever Governor KP Sports Awards, a modern ‘Adopt a Player’ mobile application, and the establishment of professional cricket and football leagues within the province.
During a meeting with a delegation from RISJA, led by President Abubakar Bin Tallat, at Governor House Peshawar, the Governor highlighted his dedication to identifying and promoting local sporting talent. He stated that the Governor KP Sports Awards will honor athletes from KP who have achieved remarkable success at national and international levels. “Recognizing talent is more than just a gesture; it serves as a powerful motivator for our youth to strive for greater heights,” he emphasized.
The Governor also introduced the innovative ‘Adopt a Player’ app, which is designed to create a direct link between promising athletes and potential sponsors and supporters. “This platform will enable individuals and corporations to support emerging talent, ensuring they receive quality training, equipment, and opportunities to thrive,” he explained.
In addition to these initiatives, the Governor announced plans to launch professional cricket and football leagues in the province. These leagues are expected to provide structured and competitive environments where young athletes can develop their skills and gain exposure on both national and international stages.
Despite the positive developments, the Governor expressed concern over the prolonged delays in completing Peshawar’s iconic Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium. The stadium, which has been under construction for several years, remains unfinished, leaving cricket enthusiasts without a proper venue. The Governor noted that other cities such as Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi have successfully completed their stadiums in a much shorter timeframe. “It is unacceptable that Peshawar’s key facility remains incomplete, depriving our cricket lovers of a dedicated space,” he said.
Kundi reiterated the deep-rooted passion for cricket and football in KP and stressed the importance of infrastructure that reflects the province’s sporting enthusiasm. “The delay in completing the stadium is not just a setback; it is a missed opportunity. I am fully committed to ensuring that the stadium is completed and becomes a beacon of hope and opportunity for our athletes.”
