Man Utd crush Bournemouth 4-1 in Premier League friendly

Manchester United Secures Strong Start in Pre-Season Tournament

Manchester United continued their winning streak in the Premier League Summer Series pre-season tournament with a commanding 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday. The match, played at the windswept Soldier Field, saw the Red Devils secure an encouraging result under the guidance of new manager Ruben Amorim.

The game started with a swift goal from Rasmus Hojlund in the eighth minute, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Hojlund, who was assisted by Patrick Dorgu’s well-placed cross from the left flank, made the most of his timing and positioning to head the ball past Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. This early strike gave United a strong advantage and set the stage for what would become a comprehensive win.

Dorgu added to the lead just 17 minutes later, capitalizing on a quick free-kick from Mason Mount. The play was executed with precision, as Dorgu maneuvered into the box and calmly slotted the ball beneath the advancing keeper. This goal extended United’s lead to 2-0 and showcased the team’s attacking flair.

Amad Diallo then found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, adding a third goal to the tally. As the match progressed, Amorim made nine substitutions with 20 minutes remaining, giving younger players a chance to shine. One such player, teenager Ethan Williams, made an immediate impact by scoring within two minutes of coming on. His low finish into the bottom corner sealed a 4-0 lead for United.

Despite the overall success, the match had one blemish when Matthijs de Ligt scored an own goal in the 88th minute, reducing the deficit to 4-1. However, this minor setback did not overshadow the positive performance from the Red Devils.

In another match held in Chicago, West Ham secured a 2-1 victory over Everton, overcoming an early deficit. Idrissa Gueye put Everton ahead in the 17th minute, but West Ham responded with an equalizer through Lucas Paqueta just before halftime. The Hammers sealed the win with a goal from Niclas Fullkrug in the 64th minute.

This result marked another challenging week for Everton, who had previously lost 3-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday. Manager David Moyes expressed his concerns about the team’s readiness for the upcoming Premier League season. He acknowledged that the squad lacked key players and was not prepared for the demands of the tournament.

“I’m not overly concerned because I don’t have the players which I need and what I want,” Moyes said after the match. “We knew before we came (to the US) we were going to be really up against it. So, it was never going to be us coming here and winning.”

He also emphasized that the team was not yet ready to perform well in the tournament or start the Premier League season effectively.

The four-team competition will conclude in Atlanta on Sunday, with Manchester United set to face Everton and West Ham taking on Bournemouth. The results so far have highlighted the strengths and areas for improvement for each participating club as they prepare for the upcoming season.
