Mkaka Vows Support for Lilongwe Mpenu, Donates Mk500 Million Health Facility

A New Era of Healthcare and Development in Lilongwe Mpenu

Eisenhower Mduwa Mkaka, the Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mpenu Constituency, has taken a significant step forward in his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents. During a recent ceremony, he officially handed over a state-of-the-art healthcare centre valued at MK500 million. This facility, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), marks a major milestone in the region’s development.

The newly constructed Chigodi Healthcare Centre, along with a staff house, is set to transform access to medical services in the area. Mkaka emphasized that the project was inspired by President Lazarus Chakwera’s policy, which aims to ensure that every five kilometers has a health facility. Currently, the nearest facility is located in Kamphata, approximately six kilometers away. This gap in service motivated Mkaka to take action, ensuring that the community receives the care they deserve.

Mkaka also highlighted the importance of the facility being fully operational by 1st August 2025. He personally oversees the procurement of medical equipment, ensuring that the centre is equipped to meet the needs of the local population. This dedication reflects his broader vision for the constituency, where healthcare is not just a privilege but a right.

A Broader Vision for Development

Beyond the healthcare initiative, Mkaka has spearheaded several other development projects during his five-year tenure. These include the construction of 14 concrete bridges, which have improved connectivity and accessibility across the constituency. Additionally, a new court building at Mpenu Headquarters has been completed, enhancing the administration of justice in the area.

Educational infrastructure has also seen significant improvements. Mkaka has overseen the construction of several new school blocks, providing better learning environments for students. Moreover, three water reticulation systems have been established, serving over 30 villages and ensuring a more reliable water supply.

Water access has been another key focus. The MP has facilitated the drilling of 80 new boreholes and the rehabilitation of 320 existing ones. These efforts have significantly improved the availability of clean water, contributing to better health outcomes and agricultural productivity in the region.

Community Reactions and Future Prospects

Senior Chief Dete praised Mkaka’s efforts, highlighting the importance of the healthcare facility as a lifeline for women and children who previously had to travel long distances for medical attention. The facility is expected to reduce medical emergencies and bring essential healthcare closer to hundreds of households in Lilongwe Mpenu.

Local resident Esnath Kukhongo from Zuwala Village expressed her gratitude, stating that many residents used to sell their land or livestock to afford healthcare for family members. She believes that the new centre will change their lives for the better.

Conclusion

The Chigodi Healthcare Centre represents more than just a medical facility; it symbolizes hope, progress, and a commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of Lilongwe Mpenu. With ongoing initiatives and a clear vision for development, Mkaka continues to demonstrate his dedication to his constituents. As the centre becomes fully operational, it is anticipated that the impact on the community will be profound, marking a new chapter in the region’s history.
