Punjab Launches 16 Cardiac Labs Under CM Maryam’s Directive

Expansion of Cardiac Care Services in Punjab

Punjab has taken a significant step forward in enhancing cardiac care services by announcing the establishment of catheterisation laboratories in 16 districts across the province. This initiative aims to provide timely and high-quality treatment for heart patients, ensuring that they can receive care closer to their homes. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to improving public healthcare infrastructure and reducing the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for critical procedures.

The selected districts for this initiative include Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Kasur, Jhang, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Layyah, Toba Tek Singh, Sheikhupura, Khanewal, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad. These areas were chosen based on the need for improved access to advanced cardiac care, particularly for patients requiring procedures such as angioplasty.

Deployment of Medical Staff and Expertise

During a high-level briefing, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasized that the deployment of doctors and medical staff has already begun. She highlighted the government’s intention to bring in the best interventional cardiologists to ensure that these facilities meet the highest standards of care. Qualified professionals with expertise in cardiology, including those holding FCPS, MD, and American Board of Cardiology qualifications, will be appointed at district headquarters hospitals.

Each catheterisation laboratory will also have a team of experienced medical officers, nurses trained in cardiology, medical imaging technologists, and catheterisation technologists. These roles are essential for the smooth operation of the labs and the successful delivery of life-saving treatments.

Initiatives Underway for Implementation

The Directorate General Health Services Punjab has already initiated the process of appointing qualified cardiologists, nurses, and technologists. This marks an important phase in the implementation of the initiative, ensuring that the necessary human resources are in place before the labs become operational.

Maryam Nawaz stated that the phased establishment of these labs will significantly reduce the need for heart patients to travel to major cities for critical procedures. By bringing advanced cardiac care closer to home, the government is addressing a long-standing challenge in the healthcare system and improving patient outcomes.

Commitment to Quality Public Healthcare

The Chief Minister reiterated her government’s commitment to quality public healthcare and stressed that this initiative will bring immediate relief to heart patients. She described it as part of a broader vision for a healthier Punjab, where every citizen has access to reliable and efficient medical services.

This move is expected to have a positive impact on the overall health of the population, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where access to specialized cardiac care has been limited. By investing in infrastructure and skilled personnel, the government is laying the foundation for a more equitable and effective healthcare system.

Long-Term Benefits and Future Plans

In addition to improving access to care, the establishment of these labs is expected to reduce the strain on larger hospitals in urban centers. It will also help in early diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions, potentially preventing more severe complications and reducing mortality rates.

Looking ahead, the government may consider expanding the initiative to additional districts or integrating other specialized services into the existing healthcare framework. This could further enhance the reach and effectiveness of the cardiac care network in Punjab.

Overall, the introduction of catheterisation laboratories in 16 districts represents a transformative step in the healthcare landscape of Punjab. It underscores the importance of investing in medical infrastructure and skilled professionals to ensure that all patients receive the care they need, regardless of where they live.
