Saudi Medical Company Proposes Integrated Medical City in Sudan
On Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry of Health in Port Sudan convened the first meeting of a committee tasked with evaluating the proposal from Bait Al-Batterjee Medical Company. This company is a leading entity within the Saudi German Hospitals Group and has put forward plans to establish an integrated medical city in Sudan.
The meeting took place in the quarantine Hall in Port Sudan, with representatives from various ministries and security agencies in attendance. The primary focus of the discussion was on the technical, financial, legal, administrative, and investment aspects of the project, alongside considerations related to security.
The potential benefits and feasibility of implementing the project were also reviewed during the session. The initiative aims to bring together a wide range of medical services in one location, which could significantly enhance the healthcare landscape in Sudan.
Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the project marks a significant advancement in the development of the health sector. He highlighted that it would provide comprehensive medical services under one roof, support the localization of treatment within the country, and contribute to the growth of medical tourism. Additionally, the project is expected to improve the quality of healthcare and create job and training opportunities for local professionals.
Dr. Ibrahim noted that the strong bilateral relationship between Sudan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia serves as a solid foundation for this ambitious endeavor. He described the project as an extension of Saudi Arabia’s supportive role in Sudan’s health sector and a positive sign of the country’s improving investment climate.
At the end of the meeting, the committee approved the general principle of proceeding with the project after conducting a thorough review of the proposal in collaboration with the company. They agreed on the nature of the partnership regarding construction and operation, with the main headquarters of the medical city planned to be located in Khartoum State. Branches are also expected to be established in several other states across Sudan.
The committee members stressed the importance of streamlining all necessary procedures to ensure the project’s success and long-term sustainability. This collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and fostering economic development through strategic investments.
