The Future of Sports: AI, Big Data, and Kyunghee University’s Vision

Exploring the Future of Sports through Technology and Innovation

The ‘2025 SPORTS DNA + INTERNATION FORUM’ is set to take place at the Seoul Campus Cheongun Hall of Kyung Hee University on Friday, July 4. This event aims to explore the intersection between sports, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and network technology, while also presenting a vision for the future of the sports industry.

Organized by Kyung Hee University’s Graduate School of Sports and the Sports DNA+ Department, the forum is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Sports Promotion Agency. The theme of the event, “Movement to Inspire, More than Than Sports: Beyond Data, Network and AI,” focuses on finding practical solutions for innovation and digital transformation within the sports sector.

The Sports DNA+ department at Kyung Hee University emphasizes that AI and data-driven analysis technologies are crucial for addressing challenges in the sports industry. The forum will serve as a platform where researchers, field experts, and students can exchange ideas, express concerns, and grow collectively.

Global Experts and Insights from Around the World

Experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, specializing in sports data and AI, will be present at the forum. Notable participants include professors from the University of Mississippi in the United States, Jiangsu University of Technology in China, and Taiwan’s National Taiwan Normal University. They will share their latest research findings and real-world case studies.

Professor Ben Carter from the University of Mississippi will deliver a lecture on optimizing tagging technology using NFL big data. Professor He Minyan from Jiangsu University will discuss the “Digital Transformation of Sports History,” while Professor Li Jian from NTNU in Taiwan will explore various characteristics of sports from a geopolitical perspective.

Other presentations will include BEPRO Director Yang Joon-sun discussing “Data Analysis and Utilization in the Global Football Market,” University of Mississippi Professor Kang Min-soo presenting on “Application of Vulnerability in Generalization Theory,” and Sangmyung University Professor Yoo Sang-gun exploring the potential of sports ICT convergence under the theme “To Infinity, and Beyond!”

Research Presentations and Global Collaboration

During the morning session, students from Kyung Hee University’s Graduate School of Sports DNA+ and Sangmyung University’s Graduate School of Sports ICT Convergence will present their research on AI, big data, and network-based sports topics. These presentations will include oral and poster sessions, allowing participants to share their work and receive feedback.

In the afternoon, a signing ceremony will take place involving seven organizations across six countries, including Pakistan. The participating institutions are the Korean Sports University AI Convergent Sports Analysis Center, the University of Mississippi, National Taiwan Normal University, the University of Sport Ho Chi Minh City, Jiangsu University of Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Government Graduate College, Khurrianwala, Faisalabad, and the Global Leader Sport AI & Big Data Society. This collaboration aims to expand joint research opportunities and global networking among researchers.

Innovating the Future of the Sports Industry

Beyond traditional academic presentations, the forum will focus on developing customized coaching and feedback systems through AI-based analysis. It will also highlight data-driven strategies for solving problems within the sports industry and showcase successful cases of digital transformation.

Additionally, the event seeks to create new research and business opportunities by integrating convergence factors such as the metaverse, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and sports platform businesses with the sports industry. This initiative aims to strengthen the foundation of the international joint research ecosystem.

Kim Do-kyun, chair of the Department of Sports DNA+ at Kyung Hee University, encouraged participation in the forum, stating, “Let’s make it together, the path of convergence of sports and technology.” He emphasized that the integration of data, networks, and AI technologies is no longer an option but an essential task for bridging the gap between the sports field and research.

The forum serves as a vital platform for domestic and international experts, researchers, and students to come together, share new possibilities, and shape the vision for the future of the sports industry.
