Yobe State Government Allocates Over N40 Billion for Major Development Projects

The Yobe State Government has announced the approval of over N40 billion for a range of key capital projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, public services, and economic growth across the state. This decision was made following a meeting of the State Executive Council, which was presided over by Governor Mai Buni in Damaturu.

The allocation includes significant funds for various sectors, with the goal of improving the quality of life for residents and promoting sustainable development. The Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, provided details on the approved projects during the meeting.

Infrastructure Development

One of the major components of the funding is the construction of office complexes to accommodate five state government agencies. A total of N1.7 billion has been allocated for this initiative. Additionally, N962.65 million will be used to build a dedicated office building for the Yobe Investment Company Ltd.

The council also approved funding for the development of modern markets in several local government areas. Specifically, N2.7 billion is designated for the Machina Modern Market, N3 billion for the Geidam Modern Market, and N3.9 billion for the completion of the Potiskum Modern Market. These projects are expected to boost trade and provide better facilities for local businesses.

Another key infrastructure project is the establishment of a Central Motor Park in Damaturu, which has been allocated N6.1 billion. Furthermore, N248 million has been approved for the first phase of remodeling and upgrading the Yobe Line Terminus, aiming to improve transportation services in the region.

Agricultural Support

To enhance agricultural productivity, the council approved several initiatives. N3.8 billion will be used for the procurement of agricultural inputs for dry season farming. In addition, N480 million will fund the purchase of 490 solar-powered water pumps, while N1.3 billion will be allocated for 1,412 solar-powered water pumps. Another N5.3 billion has been set aside for the procurement of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizers for the 2025 farming season.

These investments are designed to support farmers and increase crop yields, contributing to food security and rural development.

Healthcare Improvements

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to healthcare delivery by approving N1.4 billion for construction works in selected health facilities and training institutions. Additionally, N1.23 billion will be used for the procurement of medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities. The council also approved the absorption of 110 midwives, 54 community health extension workers, and 258 community-based health workers, aiming to strengthen the healthcare workforce.

Road Infrastructure Expansion

The state government has also approved funding for several road infrastructure projects. These include N1.25 billion for the 5km Daya-Fadawa road, N4.38 billion for the 18.5km Mashio-Ngelzarma road, N671 million for the 2.5km Nahuta-Ngojin road, and N5.3 billion for the Damaturu-Gambir road project. These improvements are expected to enhance connectivity and facilitate economic activities within the state.

Promoting Employment and Entrepreneurship

In an effort to promote job creation and entrepreneurship, the council approved N442 million for the procurement of 100 complete barbershop equipment sets and N233 million for 50 sets of hairdressing salon equipment. These initiatives aim to support small-scale businesses and create employment opportunities for the youth.
