Cyclists Express Satisfaction with the Event
Hugo Hahn shared his thoughts on the race, noting that he enjoyed it more than the previous one held at the same venue earlier this year. He mentioned that technical issues, such as a broken chain and a crash, had affected his performance in the earlier event. This time, however, the conditions were ideal for cycling, as the previous night’s rain left the trails moist and smooth.
Mimi Hough also expressed her satisfaction after securing the win. She highlighted the unique challenges posed by the terrain, which differed from what the cyclists are used to. The weather conditions were also favorable, contributing to an enjoyable race experience.
Positive Feedback and Future Plans
Nabil Robiati, deputy chairperson of the Rock and Rut Mountain Bike Club, praised the event as a success, with 44 participants across all categories. He noted that the cyclists provided positive feedback, commending the organizers for their innovative approach.
Farm Bergquell, a relatively new venue, offers free access to Rock and Rut members as part of club benefits. Others interested in using the trails for training can do so at a cost, as the club continues to improve the facilities.
Robiati also mentioned that the dates and venue for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be announced via social media platforms.
Support from Key Stakeholders
JG van Graan, Chief Commercial Officer of Nedbank Namibia, acknowledged the efforts of the athletes and organizers, highlighting the challenging nature of the race. He encouraged cycling enthusiasts to continue supporting the Rock and Rut XC series.
Van Graan also recognized the owners of Farm Bergquell for creating challenging trails that provide valuable training opportunities for local cyclists. He emphasized that many participants in the XC series are expected to compete in the Nedbank Desert Dash, a major event scheduled for 5-6 December 2025.
As the dust settles on the XC series, the anticipation for the Nedbank Desert Dash is growing. Cyclists from the XC series are expected to take on the grueling 401km journey from Windhoek to Swakopmund, showcasing their endurance and skill in one of the most demanding events in the region.
