Hojlund Shines as Amorim Secures Victory in USA Showdown

Manchester United Secures Second Consecutive Win in the Premier League Summer Series

Manchester United continued their strong start to the Premier League Summer Series with a dominant 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in Chicago. The win marks their second consecutive triumph in the pre-season tournament, bringing them closer to securing the preseason cup. The match, played at Soldier Field Stadium, was part of a series designed to help teams prepare for the upcoming season.

The Red Devils entered the game on the back of a 2-1 win over West Ham United in their opening fixture, while Bournemouth had previously defeated Everton 3-0. This encounter provided an opportunity for both teams to test their strategies and assess player fitness ahead of the new campaign.

A Strong Lineup with No New Signings in Sight

Manager Ruben Amorim opted for a starting XI that included most of the players from last season. Tom Heaton started in goal, as Andre Onana continues to recover from a hamstring injury. The defensive line featured Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw, with Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu providing width on the flanks. The attacking trio consisted of Amad Diallo, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund.

Notably, new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo did not feature in the match. Amorim explained that Cunha was dealing with fatigue and needed time to recover, while Mbeumo was also not fully match-ready. Both players are expected to make their debut in the next game against Everton.

A Dominant Performance from Hojlund and Dorgu

Rasmus Hojlund was one of the standout performers, showcasing his improved touch and movement. He opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a clever finish after a cross from Dorgu. Hojlund’s goal set the tone for a strong first-half performance.

Dorgu added to the lead shortly after with a stunning over-the-head free kick from Mason Mount. Despite heavy rain affecting the conditions, the game continued without interruption, highlighting the determination of both teams.

Amorim made only one change at halftime, replacing Maguire with Matthijs de Ligt. The team showed no signs of slowing down, with Amad Diallo extending the lead to 3-0 in the 53rd minute.

Tactical Changes and a Late Goal

In the 70th minute, Amorim made nine substitutions, leaving only Heaton and De Ligt on the field. Ethan Williams, a new addition to the squad, quickly made an impact by scoring the fourth goal just a minute after coming on.

Bournemouth managed to pull one back in the 88th minute through an own goal by De Ligt, but it was too late to change the outcome of the match. The final scoreline of 4-1 reflected Manchester United’s dominance throughout the game.

Premier League Summer Series Standings

With this victory, Manchester United now have six points in the Summer Series standings, with one game remaining. They will face Everton on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where a single point would be enough to claim the preseason cup.

Bournemouth and West Ham are currently in second place with three points each, while Everton remain at zero points.

Looking Ahead to the New Season

Ruben Amorim is set to begin his first full season in England with a challenging schedule. His first match will be against Arsenal at Old Trafford, followed by a trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham. The team will then host Burnley before facing two of last season’s top four teams in quick succession.

The first of these matches will be a Manchester derby against Manchester City, followed by a home game against world champions Chelsea.

No Deal for Alexander Isak

In a separate development, it has been confirmed that Manchester United will not pursue a move for Alexander Isak, despite the striker expressing a desire to leave Newcastle United this summer. The club is instead focusing on other potential targets, such as Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins or RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, as they look to strengthen their attack for the new season.
