Illegal Gambling Rewards Up to 200 Million Won When Reported

Encouraging Public Participation in Combating Illegal Sports Gambling

Korea Sports Leisure, a key organization responsible for managing the Sports Toto program, has once again highlighted its commitment to combating illegal sports gambling. The organization has announced that individuals who report illegal operators can receive rewards of up to 200 million won. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Illegal Sports Toto Reporting Center to address the growing problem of unlawful betting activities.

The center has implemented a system where citizens can submit information about illegal sports gambling operations, including details about operators, users, and website addresses. Reports can be made through the official website or via a dedicated phone line at 1899-1119. This multi-channel approach ensures that reporting is accessible to as many people as possible.

Under the National Sports Promotion Act, the operation and use of illegal sports gambling are considered criminal offenses. Offenders may face up to seven years in prison or fines of up to 70 million won, while users could be sentenced to five years in prison or fined up to 50 million won. Despite these legal consequences, illegal sports gambling sites continue to proliferate, posing significant risks to public safety and fair competition.

In addition to rewards for reporting illegal operators, there are also incentives for identifying those involved in match manipulation. Individuals who provide information on participants in such activities can receive up to 50 million won. Those who report other aspects of illegal sports gambling—such as users, site design, distribution, brokerage, and information provision—can earn up to 15 million won.

To ensure the accuracy and reliability of reports, individuals must provide detailed evidence when submitting information about illegal sports gambling sites. This includes accessing the site’s main page, entering the URL, and providing access information such as IDs, passwords, and referral codes after self-authentication. Evidence data must be attached for verification purposes.

Once a report is submitted, the informant may receive a reward of up to 15,000 won per case and up to 1.5 million won per person, depending on the findings of the Korea Communications Commission. Additionally, individuals who report on the accounts associated with illegal sports gambling sites can also receive a reward of 100,000 won per case, with no limit on the number of cases reported. However, the notification of reward payments is sent via mobile phone text (LMS), so it is crucial for reporters to provide an accurate mobile phone number during registration.

A representative from Korea Sports Leisure emphasized that the number of cases involving illegal sports gambling is increasing each year. To address this issue, the Illegal Sports Toto Reporting Center has established a reward system to encourage public participation. The organization is committed to minimizing the damage caused by these illicit activities and ensuring a safer environment for sports enthusiasts.

For more information on the rewards available for reporting illegal Sports Toto sites, individuals can visit the official website of the Illegal Sports Toto Reporting Center. This initiative not only helps combat illegal gambling but also empowers citizens to take an active role in preserving the integrity of sports events.
