Lucid Gravity Blazes Past Porsche and Lamborghini in the Quarter Mile

Lucid Gravity Shatters Records as the Fastest SUV Tested

The Lucid Gravity has made history by becoming the fastest SUV ever tested by Car and Driver in the quarter-mile. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) startup, showcasing the immense potential of electric powertrains when it comes to straight-line performance.

In a recent drag race, the Lucid Gravity outperformed several high-performance SUVs, including Rivian’s quad-motor R1S and even came close to matching the speed of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The Gravity Dream Edition managed to complete the quarter-mile in an impressive 10.6 seconds at 140 mph. It also reached 30 mph in just 1.4 seconds, 70 mph in 3.7 seconds, and surpassed 100 mph in 5.9 seconds. These numbers highlight the exceptional acceleration capabilities of the Gravity, which is far from being a typical family SUV.

Despite its size—being a three-row, seven-seat vehicle—the Lucid Gravity demonstrates how advanced EV technology can deliver remarkable performance. The Dream-edition model features two motors, generating 1,070 horsepower and 909 lb-ft of torque. This makes it one of the most powerful vehicles in Lucid’s lineup, following the launch of the Air in 2021.

Car and Driver noted that the Gravity outperformed some of the most powerful gas-powered SUVs on the market. It was faster than the Lamborghini Urus Performante, which completed the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which also achieved an 11.2-second run. High-powered electric SUVs like the Rivian R1S Tri Max, BMW iX M60, and Mercedes-AMG EQE53 were no match for the Gravity either. The outlet has yet to test the Tesla Model X Plaid, but it’s clear that the Gravity is setting new benchmarks.

What’s particularly impressive is that the Gravity nearly matched the Corvette Z06 in the quarter-mile, missing the sports car’s time by just a tenth of a second. In fact, the Gravity beat the Z06 to 150 mph by about three seconds. Car and Driver observed that the Gravity seems to gain momentum after reaching 60 mph, indicating strong performance characteristics beyond initial acceleration.

These results reinforce the idea that for those seeking maximum speed in a straight line, electric vehicles are the way to go. The Lucid Gravity proves that even a large, family-oriented SUV can be a force to be reckoned with on the track.

However, while the Gravity’s performance is undeniably impressive, Lucid faces challenges beyond just speed. The company needs to achieve higher sales volumes to become a sustainable and profitable business. Although the Gravity is expected to sell more units than the Air, sales have been slower than anticipated. According to data from Cox Automotive, Lucid sold only 70 units of the Gravity in the first half of 2025. The company has not provided detailed sales figures for individual models and has stated that the Gravity’s production will ramp up gradually.

The success of the Lucid Gravity could be a turning point for the company, especially as it continues to expand its product lineup and charging infrastructure. With its combination of performance, technology, and practicality, the Gravity represents a bold step forward for the EV industry.
