Man Dies on Church Altar During Prayers in Mukuru Slums

A Tragic Story of Sickness, Fear, and Death

Francis Inaweti, a 36-year-old man from Mukuru, sought refuge at the Instant Miracle Gospel Ministry Church on Tuesday, July 29. His body had begun to swell, and his head and neck were in constant pain, causing him immense suffering. This incident marked the beginning of a tragic sequence that would ultimately lead to his death.

The story of Francis’s illness started after he got involved in a dispute with a female neighbor. According to Benson Inaweti, Francis’s brother, the conflict escalated, and the neighbor made a chilling statement. “She told Francis that he had only three days to live,” Benson said. The words of the woman seemed to haunt Francis, as he died exactly three days later.

Francis’s sister, Winnie Inaweti, described how his health deteriorated rapidly. “He began swelling on his left eye, then his right eye swelled. His neck and head had started aching too. He was in so much pain,” she explained. The family tried everything they could to help him, including seeking spiritual intervention at the church.

In an effort to find relief, Francis and his wife went to the Instant Miracle Gospel Ministry Church for an exorcism. They hoped this would bring some form of healing. However, what they didn’t know was that this visit would be their last together.

The family expressed deep grief over the loss of Francis, who was described as a healthy man before the incident. “Alikuwa na afya. His death is something that took us by surprise. We cannot believe that Francis is no more,” Benson said, clearly struggling with the emotional impact of the event.

After his death, the body of Francis was taken to the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly known as the City Mortuary, for preservation while an autopsy was conducted. The process of identifying the cause of death was crucial for the family and authorities alike.

Following the troubling incident, an agitated crowd gathered outside the woman’s residence, chanting accusations against her. The tension eventually led to the destruction of her property, as the crowd set it on fire. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or deaths during this chaotic event.

Local authorities have taken up the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding Francis’s death. They are looking into the events that led to the tragic outcome, including the dispute between Francis and his neighbor.

As of now, the church where Francis sought help has not issued an official statement regarding his untimely demise. The community is still coming to terms with the events that unfolded, and many are questioning the role of faith and superstition in such tragic situations.

This incident highlights the importance of understanding the power of words and the potential consequences of fear and belief. It also underscores the need for support systems within communities to address conflicts before they escalate into life-threatening situations. The story of Francis Inaweti serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the impact that one person’s actions can have on others.
