A New Era for the Medical League
The sixth edition of the Medical League is set to be its most dynamic and engaging yet, with significant improvements in organization and a thrilling addition of athletics alongside traditional sports such as netball, football, and volleyball. This year’s event promises to bring together medical professionals from across the region in a celebration of health, teamwork, and community spirit.
Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital returns as the defending champions in football, with a strong determination to retain their title. Meanwhile, Uganda Christian University holds the volleyball crown, looking to defend their position in this year’s competition. The excitement surrounding the league continues to grow as teams prepare for what promises to be an intense and competitive season.
Twaha Ssekabira, Chairman of the Medical League, recently announced the enhancements made possible by a generous sponsorship of sh7.5 million from MEGA LifeSciences, along with team kits for all participants. This support marks a significant milestone for the league, which has long struggled with funding challenges.
“Our biggest challenge has been funding, but with this support, we anticipate greater team participation and smoother coordination,” Ssekabira said. “It’s a major relief for the organizers, and we’re grateful to all teams that have consistently supported this league over the years.”
MEGA LifeSciences, a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products, has shown a strong commitment to promoting wellness within the medical community through sports. Vivek Chandra, the company’s Country Head, emphasized the importance of this partnership:
“We’re proud to support this initiative. Sports are a vital avenue for wellbeing, and our three-year partnership will strengthen bonds within the medical community. We aim to renew and expand it when the current term ends.”
This collaboration not only provides financial backing but also includes funding for trophies and prizes for winning teams, helping elevate the quality and prestige of the tournament. The inclusion of athletics adds a new dimension to the competition, making it more inclusive and exciting for all participants.
The 2025 Medical League is shaping up to be a true celebration of health and teamwork, with renewed energy and enthusiasm among participants. The event serves as more than just a sporting competition—it is a platform for fostering camaraderie, promoting physical fitness, and highlighting the importance of a healthy lifestyle within the medical profession.
With the support of sponsors like MEGA LifeSciences, the league is well-positioned to continue growing and evolving. The focus remains on creating a positive environment where medical professionals can come together, compete, and build lasting connections. As the event approaches, anticipation is building, and the medical community is eager to see how this year’s edition will unfold.
The Medical League continues to be a testament to the power of sport in bringing people together and promoting a culture of health and wellness. With each passing year, the event becomes more organized, more inclusive, and more impactful, setting a strong foundation for future editions.
