A New Era for Peugeot 3008
The Peugeot compact SUV, the 3008, has undergone a significant transformation over the past eight years since its debut in 2017. The All New 3008 is now a C-segment SUV that made its return with a coupe-type body design from the third generation. This new model is designed to continue the legacy of the previous generations while introducing modern features and technology.
A Legacy of Success
The second-generation 3008 was highly successful in Korea, especially after it began pre-contracting at the end of 2016. It achieved more than 1,000 contracts during its pre-contracting phase and became a top seller alongside the long-wheelbase model 5008 in 2018. This success played a crucial role in helping Peugeot establish itself among the top 10 domestic import car brands.
Embracing Innovation
To maintain its popularity both at home and abroad, the new 3008 has undergone a complete redesign. The vehicle now features a coupe-type SUV style, which is commonly associated with premium brands. Electric vehicles and hybrid powertrains are the main focus of this new model. In Korea, smart hybrid models introduced through the 308 and 408 have been successfully integrated into the lineup.
The All New 3008 is scheduled for an official release on July 11, and a test drive provided insight into its charm. Two trim levels are available: Allure at 44.9 million won and GT at 49.9 million won. The tested model was the GT version, which includes additional features worth 5 million won.
Design and Features
The GT model comes equipped with pixel LED headlights, 3D tail lamps, black spoilers, heated steering wheels, electric trunks, driver’s electric seats, first-row ventilation seats, and massage seats as optional features. The test car was white, with a well-balanced design that incorporated black two-tone loops and spoilers. The front design is instantly recognizable as Peugeot, featuring three-line daylights that resemble a lion’s toenail and connect to the headlamp graphics.
The grille features a digital graphic design that reflects the latest trends. The vehicle name is engraved on the front, showcasing the new Peugeot emblem. The side design is sleek, emphasizing the coupe-type SUV style with a sharp line from the C-pillar. The rear overhang is short, giving the vehicle a sporty posture. With a full length of 4545mm, width of 1895mm, height of 1650mm, and wheelbase of 2730mm, the 3008 offers a balanced size.
The 19-inch black two-tone wheels paired with Michelin tires (225/50 R19) enhance the vehicle’s aesthetic and performance. Three aeropins protruding from the cladding improve aerodynamics and add a design element that aligns with the front lines. The shield-shaped Peugeot emblem on the front fender serves as a decorative feature reminiscent of Ferrari.
Interior Innovations
The interior of the All New 3008 showcases Peugeot’s signature eye cockpit design, which is now elevated to the next level with the panoramic eye cockpit. The 21-inch curved display appears to float in the air, offering superior visibility and a unique visual appeal. Unlike traditional displays, Peugeot’s design is suspended from the back, creating a high-positioned eye cockpit.
The small and angular steering wheel is refined with perforated leather for an excellent grip. The handling is distinct, with a responsive feel even at low speeds. The electronic gear is located at the front in the form of a toggle, with a parking brake, drive mode adjustment button, and emergency light attached.
The GT model features adaptive bolsters that reduce upper body tilt during sharp turns, along with ventilation seats. The second row offers sufficient space under the first-row sheet, but the central tunnel is slightly raised, making it less comfortable for middle-seat passengers. The electric trunk is a notable feature, though the trunk space of 588 liters is relatively small compared to similar models.
Performance and Handling
The 3008 is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder Pure Tech gasoline engine, producing 136 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission is used, enhanced by an electric motor that provides 15.6 kW of output. This integration ensures smooth acceleration and minimizes the typical dual-clutch groaning sound.
The handling is exceptional, with a dynamic feel that mimics a hatchback despite the SUV’s higher center of gravity. The driving experience is smooth and enjoyable, with a focus on agility and responsiveness. The acceleration to 100 km/h is mild, but high-speed stability is impressive.
Conclusion
The All New 3008 represents a significant evolution for Peugeot, combining style, technology, and performance. While the space may be limited compared to some competitors, the vehicle excels in handling and driving dynamics. With its hybrid system and focus on efficiency, the 3008 is poised to attract drivers who value both the advantages of an SUV and the thrill of driving.
