Global Finalists of R|Elan Circular Design Challenge 2025 Unveiled
The R|Elan Circular Design Challenge (RCDC) 2025, India’s leading sustainability award in the fashion industry, has announced its global finalists from various regions including India, the UK, the EU, and APAC. This initiative, organized by R|Elan—a brand under Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)—is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices within the fashion sector.
In collaboration with the United Nations in India and Lakme Fashion Week, the challenge received over 190 applications from more than ten countries. These entries included both organic submissions and nominations through RCDC’s extensive global network. Esteemed partners such as the British Council, Redress, Fondazione Sozzani, Fashion Revolution, and Estethica were instrumental in identifying and showcasing emerging talent worldwide.
Indian Finalists: Pioneers of Sustainable Fashion
India’s representation in the competition includes Varshne B from CRCLE, Radhesh Agrahari from Golden Feathers, and Rishabh Kumar from Farak. Each of these individuals is making significant contributions to sustainable fashion.
Varshne B’s CRCLE is a circular fashion and lifestyle brand that embraces sustainability through a comprehensive approach—from design to end-of-life. Radhesh Agrahari’s Golden Feathers transforms chicken feather waste into biodegradable, wool-like fibers, demonstrating innovative use of waste materials. Rishabh Kumar’s Farak focuses on zero-carbon, electricity-free production using handspun organic cotton and natural dyes.
International Finalists: Innovators from Around the World
From the UK, Maximilian Raynor stands out for his creative reuse of luxury deadstock and vegan materials, emphasizing rentals and near-zero waste. In the EU, Martina Boero’s brand Cavia impressed with its artisanal reinterpretation of vintage materials. Jesica Pullo from Argentina, representing APAC & Beyond, gained recognition for BIOTICO—an inclusive brand that upcycles plastic and industrial waste while employing individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Judging Criteria and Industry Recognition
The finalists were evaluated by a panel of industry leaders, including Vogue editors, designers, and sustainability experts. The evaluation criteria focused on innovation, circularity, energy efficiency, and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This initiative not only offers global visibility but also provides mentorship and strategic industry access to the participants.
Showcasing Talent at Lakme Fashion Week
The finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their work at Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI in October. The winner will be awarded INR 15 lakh, a CDC Trophy, and a mentorship with Orsola De Castro’s Estethica. The runner-up will receive INR 5 lakh, further supporting the growth and development of sustainable fashion initiatives globally.
This year’s R|Elan Circular Design Challenge highlights the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry and encourages innovative approaches to reduce environmental impact. With the participation of talented individuals from around the world, the challenge continues to inspire and drive positive change in the fashion sector.
