Rotary Delivers Healthcare to Underserved Communities

Community Health Initiative in Lekki

The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden has made a significant impact on the lives of underserved communities in the Ikota area of Lekki, Lagos. Through its maternal and child health initiative known as Project Safe Start, the club has provided essential healthcare services to those who need it most.

Project Safe Start is a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, Orchid Road General Hospital, and BioSci Health Care. The initiative focuses on delivering critical interventions that enhance the well-being of women and children. The primary goals are to promote preventive care and ensure early diagnosis of health issues.

Key Achievements of Project Safe Start

In a statement, Christiana Okenla, the President of the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, expressed gratitude to all the sponsors, partners, medical volunteers, and members who contributed to the success of the project. She emphasized that their support has brought hope, health, and healing to numerous families.

“Your support has brought hope, health, and healing to countless families. Together, we’ve demonstrated what is possible when service meets compassion,” Okenla said.

One of the major highlights of the initiative was the distribution of 100 mosquito nets, both adult and infant-friendly, to combat malaria in vulnerable households. Additionally, the club provided 50 sickle cell screening kits to promote early detection and better health outcomes for newborns.

On-Site Health Check-Ups and Additional Support

The outreach also included on-site health check-ups for over 70 women, conducted by a team of doctors and nurses from Orchid Road General Hospital. These check-ups focused on maternal wellness and preventive healthcare.

Another important component of the initiative was the launch of the Dress a Dream campaign, which aimed to provide clothing to children in need. This campaign not only addressed immediate needs but also helped to boost the confidence and dignity of the children involved.

Alignment with Global Goals

According to Okenla, the initiative aligns with the global focus of Rotary International on maternal and child health. It reflects the club’s commitment to creating sustainable impact at the grassroots level.

“You have not only contributed resources, but you’ve also inspired a movement of service and upliftment. This is Rotary in action, real people creating real change,” she added.

Continued Commitment to Community Development

The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden reaffirmed its dedication to continuing programs that promote health equity, access to education, and opportunities for vulnerable communities. By focusing on these key areas, the club aims to create lasting positive change in the lives of individuals and families in the region.

Through initiatives like Project Safe Start, the club continues to demonstrate the power of community service and collaboration. Their efforts highlight the importance of addressing health disparities and ensuring that every individual has access to essential healthcare services.
